Most of us have not heard about Tumblr until recently. When Yahoo bought Tumblr for a whopping $1.1billion, many of us were jolted from our slumber. I became curious and decided to check it out. Tumblr is a microblogging site that also allows sharing, liking and social sharing functionalities with mind-boggling potential. It is like the Facebook page + Pinterest + WordPress, and that is why it is hugely popular with the younger set. I set out to find out the benefits I can get form my Tumblr account, as a jewelry business owner. Here are some secrets to using Tumblr for promoting your jewelry.

Easy to share & follow
Unlike most other social media, following and re-blogging or reposting is quite acceptable on Tumblr; this increases the chances of my posts going viral, exponentially. Dofollow is a concept unique to Tumblr which makes following easy. All links posted to Tumblr are dofollow, facilitating sharing. Combined with the reblogging or reposting facility, my posts on Tumblr go viral more often than not. Consider the fact that the reposted ones all act like a dofollow backlink to the original post, and the immense potential of this vastly ignored site is evident.

Good for content discovery
Tumblr allows more text than Pinterest or Facebook; it also facilitates sharing content. When people use hashtags to search on Tumblr, unlike on other sites, the content has greater potential to be discovered than the content on other sites. The use of hashtags helps even where I don’t have many followers, unlike other sites. Since Tumblr allows scrolling past uninteresting fare, and so there are less number of negative comments for a not so popular post. I upload my images first on Tumblr before sharing them on other social marketing platforms.

Content testing
I can post sample articles of my blogs and images on Tumblr and based on the reaction of my followers decide whether to take it to the next level as a social marketing idea or ditch it. For a small business owner like myself, such a service at no cost is a lifesaver and helps in weeding out the bad marketing ideas. Tumblrogs also help in improving my page rank with trial microblogs. I can set up a microsite to post content that is different from the image of my business, while allowing me to chance to capitalize on it.

Create a brand at no cost
Branding is an integral part of any business and Tumblr allows me to get brand visibility for my jewelry at no significant cost. I can post articles, tips, accessorizing tips and jewelry buying tutorials with posts, pictures and texts. Such branding promotes brand recognition of my products, as Tumblr is essentially a visual medium.

To sum up, use Tumblr as you would any social media. Tumblr needs more attention as it is the world’s number one microblogging site, and has 130+ million blog posts. Tumblr averages about a million hits a day; when we factor in that more than half of its users are women and around 50% of its users are under 25, I can see the potential for growth.

One of the fastest growing social networks in the world right now is not Facebook, Twitter, or even MySpace. Instead, it is Tumblr. This social network/blog site has been taking the world by storm recently. According to recent numbers, tumbler has been adding 25,000 new accounts per day. It’s growing in popularity, and the business features are amazing. For those looking to create additional online revenue outlets, you might want to check out this growing behemoth.

First, Tumblr offers unparalleled customization for a social network. Because it was set up like a blog it does not have all the restrictions that Facebook or Twitter might have on users for content.

There are options for people to include their own domain name, set up RSS feeds from other blogs and news sources, import videos from YouTube, Tweets from Twitter, photos from Flickr, and bookmarks from Digg, Delicious, and StumbleUpon. Additionally, I could even use Google analytics to show how many people didn’t coming to my tumbler sites.

Second, while those who have read my previous articles and go to my blog know that for I’m huge fan of WordPress blogs. The challenge with WordPress for some, however, is that you have to have a decent understanding of how WordPress works to make it successful. Tumblr is very easy to use for even the most novice web user. Therefore, making it more accessible to be used by your average every day social networking consumer.

Third, tumbler is more than just a blog. It is a social network where people can follow each other’s blogs and get a better understanding of what you are promoting. Just like they would follow you on twitter or friend joined Facebook on public and how you can monetize your presence online. Tumblr provides a great platform to get a core following of people reading your blog and buying your products/services.

With more people using Tumbler for their easy blogging capabilities and the viral possibilities of having a built in social network businesses need to keep tabs on Tumblr. Do not overlook this online marketing gem.

Writing books is difficult.

So selling them should be easy, right?

In a perfect world… that’s how the universe would work, but as we all know… the Universe AIN’T perfect, and building buzz for your books isn’t all that easy as either.

I want to share 3 simple strategies you CAN use right now to amp UP your own book sales – something we’re using a lot of ourselves with “No Guru Guides” and best of all, it’s a strategy that can largely be implemented for just a few bucks, no fancy pants editors, no expensive advertising campaigns and no “gurus” or gimmicks required.

1 – Create a dedicated TUMBLR blog for your book.

Lots of people think that Tumblr is only for teenager, or animated Gif’s – or for perpetual pics of bad inspirational quotes and adult oriented content.

The truth is, Tumblr is a kick ass platform for connecting with a community of people who share the very same interests as you – and a great way of curating content from your book, and building buzz for those who are likely to be buyers as well.

A dedicated book blog is super easy to launch – can be done in an hour – and you can clip, snip and share chapters, excerpts and ideas from your book (and get feedback from your audience) with amazing ease using the Tumblr platform, something that is far more challenging on a conventional blog as well.

(and if you have 5 books – you SHOULD have 1 dedicated Tumblr for each)

2 – Create a dedicated book blog, too.

So many folks think that blogging about their book is the most effective way of building up their book brand – or engaging an audience of people who are likely to buy. That IS true in my experience as well relative to the alternative (NOT blogging about your book:-) BUT… we’re now setting up dedicated WordPress blog for every new book that we publish, and I’ve personally watched as sales have gone UP – simply by creating a very simple blog that highlights each respective book in a series. (with reviews, a Table of Contents, excerpts and samples, links to Amazon, etc)

3 – Article marketing for building your platform

NOT blog building mind you – but article marketing, or content syndication for the purposes of building a platform, or community of subscribers you can follow up with, and funnel to and through your various book blogs, and social media accounts, as each book (or your first book) is being launched. Article marketing has generated more than 5 MILLION unique visitors to my own network of stuff just in the last 3 years or so – all free – and well over 4 million from ONE directory alone.

In some sexier markets?

I can add 100 new people to my list per DAY, using just my keyboard and creativity, and leveraging the huge built in audience that these directories attract on a regular basis… and even though article marketing is NOT quite as effective overall in 2013 as it once was, it’s still one of the very BEST ways to build buzz for your brand, your blog, your book and your business… and the best part is, if you are on a bootstrap budget, it’s still 100% free!
